- Etymologie: "Austro" is derived from Latin "auster" (= south); it indicates the occurence of the member of the family in the far south of Africa - south of the known distribution areas of Mantophasmatidae and Tanzaniophasmatidae fam.n. "Phasma" is a classical generic name for stick insects and has also been used as a component in the first described Mantophasmatodea, i.e., Mantophasma Zompro, Klass, Kristensen & Adis, 2002.
