• Etymologie: The adjectival specific epithet is derived from the Greek xeros, referring, in this case, to both a dry place (the desert type locality) and the condition of the specimens themselves (dried out remains on the desert floor) and the Greek dimunitive zoyphion (of zoön), meaning a small animal.
