- Etymologie: The specific epithet is a patronym in honour of the co-discoverer of evolution by natural selection, Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), on the occasion of the bicentenary year of his birth. Wallace led a fascinating life, making contributions to many fields of science and also to social justice, including women's suffrage. The senior author spent nine months in 2020 during the pandemic employed as a project coordinator and researcher for the Alfred Russel Wallace Correspondence Project - transcribing Wallace's interesting correspondence was a great constant during that time of global uncertainty.
